I was "accused" of being "posh" for buying Madonna's "Die Another Day" CD single. I wonder what would I be accused of for buying Badly Drawn Boy (BDB)?

Incidentally, BDB did mention Madonna in one of the songs on his new CD "Have You Fed the Fish?" It is a cute song actually called "You were Right" and goes something like this:

" I just had a dream the other night
I was married to the Queen,
and Madonna lives next door
I think she took a shine to me
And her kids were all grown up
But I had to turn her down because I was still in love with you"

The US Edition of the CD comes with "The Official Bootleg Live @ Glastonbury" with 15 glorious live renditions of his past efforts including "About A Boy" soundtrack and "Have You Fed the Fish?" The live CD alone is worth buying. It is a brilliant set and the genius in BDB is evident in the way he improvises the songs given that it is only him on the stage! Try listening to it whilst stir-frying some noodles and beef - it adds a different zing to it!!

Don't let the Live CD detract you though because "Have You Fed the Fish?" is brilliant in itself. I have always felt listening to BDB is like watching one of those silent movies ie the speed and tempo of the film is unpredictable. At times the movement is slow, other times, the film just speeds up and it is quirky and yet fun. The other thing too, the songs never stick to one's head - because there are just too many of them ie 15 on this CD too, including some instrumentals but that is the beauty of it - you go away feeling and thinking that was interesting and nice. You want to listen to it again to remind yourself what it was all about.

Some songs give you an 80s feel to it ie of "Madness" days and those silly and happy things that you do in the 80s - how times have changed. Listening to the CD actually gave me a positive lift and conjured my dream home for some weird reason. It has definitely inspired me to build that dream house. For starters - a state of the art music system that is piped around the whole house so that I could get crystal clear sound rising above the stir-fry noise!!
