Presents
The Flipside Music Festival at Whistle Binkies
South Bridge, Edinburgh

Bringing just under 80 prominent and emerging musical artists together from all over the UK, along with representatives from Theatre and Film,

The Flipside Music festival promises a wide range of mainly Scottish based entertainment over its five week duration, from 1st August to 1st of September 2001. Each afternoon there will be quality acoustic ensembles and acts, followed by evenings filled with a mixture of bands and solo artists. Covering a wide range of musical styles, from folk and blues through to rock and pop, the festival is split up into set themes, which include:-

* Female Led Performer evenings showcasing some of the finest female talent in Scotland and the UK

* New Acoustic Music Evenings, with acts from the borders thriving musical scene, as well as local Edinburgh folk acts.

* Singer/songwriter evenings

* Mainly local bands and small ensembles for the weekend nights, with some travelling across from the West

* Storytelling by Otherworld Theatre on Sunday afternoon's leading into a blues evening at night

What is even more remarkable about this festival, other than the exceptional talent it is bringing together, is the speed with which it has been drawn together by festival organisers Peter MacCalman and Pol Steele.

Since finalising the venue in the middle of June, they have combined Pol Steele's plans for the third, and biggest, Edinburgh International Internet Festival with Peter MacCalman's contacts in the UK music scene to bring us the Flipside Music festival; the flipside of the existing Edinburgh festivals as the majority of the acts come from Scotland's sometimes unrecognised and thriving unsigned music scene.

Now in its third year, The Edinburgh International Internet Festival is recognised as being the largest online international arts project in Scottish Internet history. It is a freely given gift from a small team of Scottish artists to the entire online artistic community of the internet. The aim of the project is to provide a platform whereby any artist with Internet access can participate in the Edinburgh Festivals.

Over the last two years the event has featured in excess of 2,000 artists from over 40 countries and has been enjoyed by over 2.2 Million visitors. Following our online success we now aim to compliment the internet festival with this venue-based music and arts event; The Flipside Music Festival. This will provide the participating musicians, bands, venue and sponsors with an unprecedented level of international promotion via the online aspects of the event.

This online event is hosted at www.edinburghceltica.com
and tentative designs for the music festival can be viewed at http://www.edinburghceltica.com/liveside.htm
At the moment the internet pages are in the process of being developed and there progression can be viewed online over the next few weeks. All will be completed by the last weeks of July.
