So Stuart Murdoch didn't make it, and his campaign to become Rector of Glasgow University proved a failure. He only got 347 votes, which only granted him the third place. The new Rector is now Greg Hemphill - star of the BBC series 'Chewing The Fat', who got a striking 1,127 votes. Only 101 votes separate him from the second comer, writer and artist Alistair Gray. Just a few students voted, a mere 11% of the University 'population', definitely less than those who took part in the latest Rainsound poll, which, were it necessary, crowned The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan the real ideal Rector.
